Display of “Political Signs”It is that time of year when many individuals choose to display signs promoting their favorite candidate for public office or other political issues. In May of 2009, City Council adopted a new ordinance regulating signage in the community. “Political signs” fall into the category of temporary, non-commercial signs. A maximum of 3 signs exhibiting non-commercial messages, excluding the property address, may be placed on residential properties within the community. These signs may not exceed six square feet and if the sign is tied to an event, {such as an election}, they must be removed within seven days after the conclusion of the event. No sign may be placed in the City rights-of-way or on any other City property. Signs found in these locations are subject to removal and disposal without notice. 2010 Curb Replacement ProgramOn Monday, August 16, Wyoming City Council adopted a Resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into a contract for the 2010 Curb Replacement Program. The Wyoming Public Works Department has been aggressively repairing various street maintenance items to both eliminate a potential hazard as well as to prolong the life of the roadway infrastructure. During the annual curb inspections, it was noted that numerous streets have curb that is in various states of deterioration. With the adoption of the Resolution on Monday night, an estimated 1,590 lineal feet of curb will be removed and replaced to match the existing curb on the following streets: Sweetwater Drive, Brayton Avenue (cul-de-sac end), Stonemill Court, Holman View Drive, and Scarborough Way. The City received bids from numerous contractors to perform the curb repair. Ultimately, Adleta, Inc. was the lowest responsive and responsible bidder with a bid $20,000 lower than the engineer's project estimate. | Natural Gas Aggregation Program Update and Retail Electric InformationThe City of Wyoming Natural Gas Aggregation Program just entered its second year and Integrys Energy Services Inc. has once again been selected as the provider of natural gas to this group. The up to date pricing comparison is available here. All eligible residents who were enrolled in the Natural Gas Aggregation Program last year are automatically enrolled in the 2010-2011 term. Residents who chose to opt-out of the program last year were NOT enrolled in the new term. New residents and current participants should have received a letter from Integrys Energy Services Inc. in late July acknowledging their participation in the program and information on how to opt-out of the program. Residents who would like to opt-in or opt-out of the program should contact 1.877.778.9937. The City has received numerous calls from residents regarding solicitations from alternate providers offering discounts on electric service. The City is not involved in an electric aggregation program at this time and has no current plans to aggregate in the near future. The City recently selected Duke Retail as the provider of electric service to municipal facilities through the end of 2011. The savings anticipated by securing this lower unit pricing is over $200,000 for the term of the supply agreement. Questions regarding the natural gas aggregation program or retail electric offers may be directed to Lynn Tetley at 842.1382 or ltetley@wyoming.oh.us. |
