P1000708.JPGThe City of Wyoming - Recipient of Award recognizing Recycling Innovation

The Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District conducts its annual recycling awards ceremony to recognize great achievements in waste reduction and recycling throughout Hamilton County. The City of Wyoming will be recognized at the recipient of The John Van Volkenburg Award for Recycling Innovation.

The John Van Volkenburgh Award represents the highest achievement award presented by the Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District. The award recognizes an individual, or organization that, identified an opportunity to better the Hamilton County community through innovation in recycling, pursued that opportunity and achieved outstanding results.

The award is presented in honor and memory of the work of John Van Volkenburgh - a dedicated solid waste professional and an outstanding person who touched the lives of all those who knew him personally and professionally. John was responsible for creating many of the innovative programs still operated by the District today - programs which have gained the district local, national and international recognition for being at the forefront of recycling.

The City would like to thank all residents for their recycling efforts. This award would not be possible without your continued support. Keep up the good work Wyoming!

Tree City USA

Wyoming has been named a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day P1000068.JPGFoundation again this year. To be a Tree City USA, a community must have a tree board or department, a Tree Ordinance, a comprehensive forestry program, and an Arbor Day observance. The City of Wyoming generally observes Arbor Day on the last Saturday in April at which time it proclaims its commitment to the urban forest by planting a tree within the community.

As trees are a very important part of the community, the Urban Forestry Board annually presents tree awards for those "special trees" in the City. If you know of a tree especially old or large, unusual or unique, especially well placed in the landscape, classic shape for its type, or exceptionally well taken care of, you are invited to nominate it for next year's awards.
If you would like to nominate a tree, forms are available at the City Building, by clicking here, or by emailing Mike Lippert. If you would like additional information please contact Mike Lippert at 513.821.0037 or email him at mlippert@wyoming.oh.us.

Fall Leaf Collection

City crews will conduct curbside leaf pick up from 10/11 until 12/15. Do not rake leaves into the gutters; place them just behind the curb in your yard and extend no more than ten feet up into your yard. Leaf piles blocked by vehicles will not be picked up; it is not possible for the equipment to get in such tight areas. For information call 513.821.3505 or email thuxel@wyoming.oh.us.

Rumpke Garbage Pick Up Requirements

Due to a recent outbreak of bed bugs in the Cincinnati area, Rumpke requires special instructions when preparing certain items for garbage pick up.

  • Mattresses will not be picked up if there are insects of any kind on the mattress.  It is recommended that residents reuse the plastic their new mattress came in and wrap the old mattress for disposal.

  • Couches and other fabric furniture will not be picked up if there are insects present.  These items must be wrapped in plastic.

  • Clothing must also be placed in plastic bags before it will be picked up.

For more information, please call Rumpke at 513.851.0122.

2010 Curb Replacement Program

On Monday, August 16, Wyoming City Council adopted a Resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into a contract for the 2010 Curb Replacement Program. The Wyoming Public Works Department has been aggressively repairing various street maintenance items to both eliminate a potential hazard as well as to prolong the life of the roadway infrastructure. During the annual curb inspections, it was noted that numerous streets have curb that is in various states of deterioration. With the adoption of the Resolution, an estimated 1,590 lineal feet of curb will be removed and replaced to match the existing curb on the following streets: Sweetwater Drive, Brayton Avenue (cul-de-sac end), Stonemill Court, Holman View Drive, and Scarborough Way. The City received bids from numerous contractors to perform the curb repair. Ultimately, Adleta, Inc. was the lowest responsive and responsible bidder with a bid $20,000 lower than the engineer's project estimate.
The City anticipates that this project will begin in two weeks time. Wyoming residents that live on the streets affected will be notified when work will begin on their street. All streets will remain open to thru traffic during construction.
