Water Works Department

The Wyoming Water Works Department provides the water services for Wyoming residents, businesses and a few P1000066.JPGneighboring communities. Located within city limits, six wells pump ground water into the water treatment facility where it is processed for consumer use. In June 2000, the new water treatment plant went online with the capability to process three million gallons of water per day.
On average, the plant produces one million gallons of water per day. The water processed at the Wyoming Water Plant exceeds all EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) requirements. To meet such requirements, the Water Works Department had adopted the following process:

  • Lime Softening (reducing the mineral content of well water)
  • Chlorination (disinfecting the water for distribution)
  • Filtration (clarifying the water)
  • Fluoridation (to prevent dental cavities, implemented in 1953)

Under the direction of the Public Works Director and the Assistant Public Works Director, three Water Works Operators are trained to respond to a variety of inquiries and emergencies 24 hours a day.
Most water main breaks are repaired within two hours of the Public Works repairmen arriving on site. The Water Works Department assists residents in locating and stopping leaks. They also provide such services as explaining water bills and help to resolve complex water quality issues and regulations to residents.

When there is a problem, who do you call?

Water:

The City owns the water service line from the water main to the curb stop or shut-off, and also owns the water meter. The homeowner maintains the curb stop and owns the water service from the curb stop into the home, except for the water meter. If your water meter is leaking, call Water Works at 821.8044 to schedule an appointment. Water Works will also provide assistance in addressing water quality issues or helping to locate curb boxes and service lines. Call a plumber for any other water problems.

Sanitary Sewer:
The sanitary sewer system is owned and operated by the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) of Greater Cincinnati. Wyoming only handles the billing for MSD. MSD establishes its own rates, which can be found at msdgc.org/customer_service/. For sewer problems, call MSD at 352.4900.

Electrical/Gas:
Duke Energy is responsible for the gas and electric lines, as well as the streetlights. If you experience an outage, call 421.9500.

Backflow Preventer Inspection

If you are customer that has an irrigation or sprinkler system, live in a four person apartment building or larger, or own a business, you are required to have a backflow preventer on your system. You must have the backflow preventer inspected annually by a ceritifed plumber. After inspection, please forward the paperwork indicating results and a processing fee of $25 to:
