Community Development & Building
The Mission of the Community Development/Building Department is to promote the public health, safety, and welfare of the City's residents. The department strives to foster and ensure safe, sanitary, thriving living and working environments and to help retain and enhance the quality of life of our citizens.
The Community Development & Building Department achieves these goals through effective planning and balanced economic development/redevelopment; adoption and enforcement of the Planning, Zoning, Building, Housing and Non-residential Property Maintenance Codes. The department also oversees the construction, alteration, and maintenance of housing and non-residential building stock.
The Community Development/Building Department Issues the necessary permits and certificates for the construction of new one, two, and three family residential buildings, and additions and alterations to existing dwellings. Details of these functions include:
- Inspects the jobs in progress;
- Reviews plans for other multi-family and non-residential building projects to determine compliance with the City Zoning Code.
- Conducts inspections of businesses, multi-family buildings, nursery school and day care facilities, schools, and religious institutions in the City.
- Inspects the public sidewalks and identifies needed repairs.
