Wyoming Recreation & Citizen Engagement Department

The Mission of the Recreation & Citizen Engagement Department is to provide a broad spectrum of cultural, educational, athletic, and recreational opportunities that enrich the community’s quality of life and community engagement.

The City has 15 facilities for recreation/leisure activities. These sites are located on a combined 34.6 developed acres.  The ratio of facilities and acreage on a per resident basis results in more opportunities for Wyoming residents. Some of the popular organized athletic programs for youth and adults include lacrosse, baseball, soccer, and basketball.  The Department offers a swim team, swim lessons, day camp, and exercise/workout programs for all ages as well as a preschool program and much more.  The Department is responsible for organizing special events sponsored by the City including the Fourth of July celebration, Fall Festival, Halloween events, and the Holiday celebrations.  the Recreation & Citizen Engagement Department is also responsible for managing the Wyoming Civic Center including its rentals and recreational and community events occurring at this site.

The Department is responsible for Citywide contract administration as well as managing individual recreational contracts including those with fitness instructors, program instructors, and the management of the Family Aquatic Center; managing the City’s Performance Measurement Program; and other special projects as necessary.

The Mission of the Recreation Department is to provide a broad spectrum of cultural, educational, athletic, and recreational opportunities that enrich the community's quality of life.  The Department responds to community needs by planning, developing, and evaluating recreational program services. The Recreation Department is able to unite the community through volunteer participation and community events; collaborating with Wyoming organizations; and neighboring communities in establishing a well rounded offering of recreational opportunities.

The Recreation Center offers many different types of memberships.  You do not have to be a resident of Wyoming to buy a membership.

The Wyoming Civic Center is located at 1 Worthington Avenue at the corner of Springfield Pike and Worthington Avenue.  this recreation facility has a large meeting/ballroom with a stage, and a fully equipped kitchen.  This facility is also home to the Candlepin Bowling Lanes which is the only one of its kind in this area of the country.

The Citizen Engagement aspect of the department, which includes the City's special evetns is located at the City Building, 800 Oak Avenue.  However, informaion about community events and activities can be obtained by contacting either the City Building or the Recreation Center.
