Bin Me!
What can you recycle?
Glass, Plastic, Metal
and Paper!
Glass
-Recyclable glass includes brown, green, clear and bottles and jars.
-Glass comes from sand and does
not wear out or decompose. It is great example of closed-loop recycling-that
means it can be recycled back into glass again and again and again...(you
get the point!)
-Melting recycled glass to make new glass saves energy, chemicals,
resources, and money.
Plastic
-Look on the bottom of plastic containers for a triangle
symbol with a number in the center. That identifies the
type of plastic it is. In Wyoming, #1 and #2 plastics are accepted
at the curb, so lugem to the bin.
Types of Recyclable Plastics:
#1-PETE (or polyethylene terephthalate) is the most common
type of plastic. It is used in beverage containers, mouthwash bottles,
peanut butter jars, and fruit drink bottles.
-When you recycle Plastic #1, it can be reused to make polyester,
dish washing liquid bottles, computer ink toner cartridges, yarn,
and even carpet.
#2-HDPE (or high density polyethylene) is strong, stable, and resistant
to chemicals. Examples of Plastic
#2 are milk bottles, detergent bottles, shampoo bottles, and juice
bottles.
-When you recycle #2, it can be turned into material for laundry
detergent bottles, drainage pipes, recycling bins, park benches,
plastic lumber, Frisbees, bird feeders, floor tile, and fencing.
Metals
-We use aluminum for food and
beverage cans.
-When you "bin" these metals, they can be recycled back
into food and beverage cans, aluminum gutters, and siding.
-Tin cans from soup, food, and
pet food can also be recycled.
Paper
-All the paper thats fit to recycle: Newspapers, magazines,
catalogs, junk mail, and letter, office, and computer paper.
-Paper is made from trees. When
it is recycled it can be turned back into paper, as well as construction
paper egg cartons, cereal and cracker boxes, paper towels, and tissues.
-Make sure that you place papers in brown grocery bags and keep
them clean and dry before its time to lugem to the curb.
Types of Recyclable Papers:
*Fiberboard boxes-- This is the stiff, flat
kind that you find in cereal, detergent, and macaroni and cheese
boxes. Before putting it in the bin, remove any bags, trays, or
handles.
*Corrugated cardboard--
This is the material with fluted or waffled walls, like in packing
boxes. Make sure to break it up into 2 x 3 foot pieces and tie or
bundle it together before sending it to the curb.
